The Palace That I Live In
About
For three days in autumn 2013, a gorgeous rural property four hours west of Sydney was home to three actors, nine crew, six dogs and a mouse. This was the family of ‘The Palace That I Live In’, an independent film financed entirely via crowd-funding.
The film was co produced by Mark Sims, Lâle Teoman & Aimèe-Lee X. Curran, written by Lâle & directed by Aimèe-Lee. It features Hunter-Page Lochard (Cleverman, The Sapphires, Around The Block), Lâle's real life mother Diana Jeffrey, and herself. The Palace That I Live In had it's world premiere at Palm Springs International Short Fest 2014 with a sold-out audience. The film has also screened in NYC Independent Film Festival, Edinburgh Short Film Festival in 2015 & Tasmania Breath Of Fresh Air Film Festival in 2016.
Synopsis
Regretting the unfulfilled aspirations of her eccentric mother, 17 year-old Poppy struggles to accept her life in a run-down shed on a decaying rural property. Her vividly imagined dreams lend her escape, but an awkward friendship with a boy from a nearby property leads to a greater understanding of what it means to live a normal life.
